Humanities study develops careful attention to meaning, interpretation, argument, and expression. A philosophy course and a writing workshop ask for different kinds of work, but both benefit from patience with a text and a willingness to revise an initial response.
Choose a survey when you need orientation, or a focused workshop when you want to produce and revise a piece. Check the reading and assignment expectations. Strong teaching should help you explain a position or creative decision rather than only recognize a famous name.
Summarize an argument fairly before criticizing it, or revise a scene against a specific intention. Keep the earlier version so you can explain what changed. A considered response is more valuable than rushing to a conclusion or accumulating quotations.
