PaidModern Robotics: Mechanics, Planning, and Control
A mathematical robotics sequence covering robot motion, kinematics, dynamics, planning, and control, supported by programming exercises.
Northwestern University — Kevin Lynch
Explore Northwestern’s course on grasping, contact forces and wheeled mobile robots, including motion planning and control for mobile manipulators.

Modern Robotics 5 extends the sequence to contact and wheeled mobility. Grasping lessons examine forces between bodies, and mobile-robot lessons introduce motion constraints for different wheel systems. The combination supports later work on a mobile base carrying a robotic arm.
Intermediate learners prepared for mathematical modeling and programming. The series uses Python, MATLAB or Mathematica; later courses build on earlier Modern Robotics material.
The mathematical and programming demands vary sharply across robotics courses. Preview the exercises and software setup before enrolling. Use simulations for independent practice; course completion alone does not prepare someone to operate an industrial robot safely.
Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.
Compare an omnidirectional base with a constrained wheeled base in simulation. Explain how their feasible movements affect a pick-and-place approach.
This overview is based on the provider's published information, checked on . It is an editorial assessment, not a claim that we completed the resource. Time filters are approximate study ranges; projects and exercises can take longer.
