Opens on the provider’s site. Check current access and certificate terms there.
This combined course brings together the first three parts of J. Anthony Allen’s theory sequence. It starts with notation and rhythm, then develops scales, keys, triads, inversions and seventh chords. The composition-oriented approach makes it useful for learners who want to connect written theory with the decisions involved in making music.
No previous music experience is required. The instructor recommends free notation software for working with and hearing the examples.
This is one combined enrollment, counted as one course. Software demonstrations include older notation interfaces, so use the concepts while checking the controls in your installed version.
Udemy offers this as a paid course; available purchase and subscription options vary. Check the curriculum, previews and checkout terms before enrolling. A completion certificate is not an accredited qualification.
Notate a four-bar phrase, identify its key and harmonize it in two ways. Use playback to compare the results and explain the chord choices.
