Course overview

Wiley extends game-design analysis to the systems surrounding a finished experience. Nine modules consider rewards, multiplayer, immersive platforms, monetization, music, cinematics, testing and production. The curriculum is adapted from Level Up! and relies mainly on readings with short introductions and assessments.

What you will learn

  • Compare multiplayer and platform design constraints
  • Assess reward and monetization choices
  • Plan testing and production considerations

Who this suits

The Intermediate course is better suited to someone who already understands basic game mechanics or development. It is the third part of Wiley’s pathway, with platform and production content distinct from the earlier foundations.

Before you enroll

The estimated six hours include reading and assessments. Monetization examples do not establish that a game will earn revenue, and store policies or platform requirements may change. Evaluate how a purchase or reward affects players, including children, and verify current distribution rules before using a commercial model in a real release.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Compare two possible release platforms for a small original game. Explain how controls, multiplayer needs and one proposed monetization model affect scope and the player experience.
