Develop a game proposal through ideation, playtesting, visualization and peer review in CalArts’ capstone, which requires its four preceding courses.

This CalArts capstone turns an existing game idea into a coordinated proposal. Seven modules guide ideation, repeated prototyping, visual development, presentation and final review. The work centers on communicating the game’s concept and intended experience, with peer-reviewed milestones rather than an engine-specific development tutorial.
The Intermediate capstone explicitly restricts eligibility to learners who earned certificates in the four preceding specialization courses. Confirm that requirement before enrolling; it is not an independent beginner starting point.
The structured workload is approximately sixteen hours, while the page rounds its schedule to two weeks at ten hours weekly. Peer review and original development can take longer. Completing a design document does not produce a finished executable game or guarantee publisher interest. Keep the intended scope realistic and distinguish tested mechanics from untested ideas.
Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.
Develop a short proposal with a prototype, playtest observations and annotated visual references. Mark every major assumption and explain which design decision changed after someone else tried the game.
