Course overview

This unit moves between persistence, server endpoints and the React client. Spring Data repository examples include relational data and MongoDB, followed by REST operations and consuming services. React component lessons introduce the frontend side of the connection, allowing learners to follow how data travels across the application rather than studying each layer in isolation.

What you will learn

  • Define and use Spring Data repositories
  • Implement and consume REST operations
  • Connect React components with backend data

Who this suits

The published level is Intermediate. Java, Spring basics and JavaScript are useful preparation; learners who have not built a small web application should complete the relevant foundations before attempting integration across several layers.

Before you enroll

The course is approximately five hours and contains taught lessons plus assessments. Its React setup includes Create React App, which React deprecated for new applications in February 2025. Expect to adapt project scaffolding using current React guidance while studying the integration concepts. This is one specialization unit, not the complete enrollment, and examples need validation, authorization and testing before use with real users or data.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Expose a small repository through REST endpoints and display its records in a React component. Implement an empty state and a failed-request state, then explain the difference between a frontend rendering issue and an API response issue.
