Memory learning is useful when it improves later recall of material you need to understand. Reading speed alone is an incomplete measure. Different texts require different levels of attention, and difficult reasoning often benefits from deliberately slow study.
Choose a useful starting point
Look for exercises that check recall and comprehension separately from pace. Treat promotional multipliers as claims to evaluate, not promised results. A general course does not assess a learning difficulty or replace appropriate educational support.
Build on the lessons
Study two comparable texts on different days. Record time and later comprehension without the text, then judge whether a technique improved useful understanding rather than only speed.
