About Creative Thinking

Creative thinking produces and develops alternatives to a familiar approach. It helps to frame the problem before seeking novelty. Several different ideas create a better basis for learning than committing immediately to the first appealing solution.

Choose a useful starting point

Choose methods with concrete exercises and a route from ideas to tests. A brainstorming output is not evidence that an option is useful. Evaluate broad psychological claims carefully and distinguish inspiration from copying another person’s work.

Build on the lessons

Generate five approaches to a small service problem, then design one inexpensive test. Write down the result that would count against the idea before you begin.
