Course overview

Wiley adapts Caroline Adams Miller’s Big Goals into a sequence of readings, explanations and reflective exercises. Learning goals, relationships, investments and decision-making connect an ambition with the work needed to pursue it. The course suits learners who prefer a structured framework and want to examine both the personal meaning of a goal and the resources it will require.

What you will learn

  • Explore ambitious and learning-oriented goals.
  • Connect relationships and resources with action.
  • Review decisions and a structured progress framework.

Who this suits

Beginner by the provider’s label, with no technical background required. Basic goal-setting familiarity helps. The eight-hour estimate includes book-based reading and reflection, rather than eight hours of video.

Before you enroll

A useful goal-setting method should make the next action and review process clearer. Account for time, resources, competing responsibilities and circumstances outside your control. Course marketing about guaranteed success or effortless results should not be treated as evidence of an individual outcome. Keep personal reflections private and use fictional examples for shared exercises. Team goals need agreement about priorities and capacity, as well as a measurement method. A completion certificate records training; it does not establish that a goal or business result has been achieved.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Describe a fictional ambitious goal and identify what must be learned to pursue it. List the people, resources and decisions involved, then propose an early milestone that would provide useful evidence about the plan.
