Course overview

Wiley introduces the workspace and drawing tools used to create and edit two-dimensional technical drawings. Eleven modules cover navigation, setup, geometry, precision, properties and selection. Adapted from Ralph Grabowski’s AutoCAD For Dummies, the course combines short overviews, readings and assignments rather than relying on a long sequence of narrated software demonstrations.

What you will learn

  • Navigate the AutoCAD workspace and drawing views
  • Create and modify geometry with precision tools
  • Manage object properties and selection

Who this suits

The Beginner course states no prior AutoCAD experience is required, with basic computer skills recommended. Learners who prefer written explanations and structured exercises can use it as a foundation before specialized architectural or engineering projects.

Before you enroll

The estimated eight hours include readings and assessments. Software access is separate, and AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT do not offer identical features. The source book dates from 2022, so compare interface details with your installed version. This is the first course in a three-course pathway; completing it is different from completing the full specialization. A completion certificate also does not establish professional drafting competence or Autodesk certification.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Draw a simple original room or mechanical outline with specified dimensions. Use appropriate snaps and properties, modify one dimension, then explain how you checked the geometry rather than judging accuracy from its appearance.
