Course overview

CalArts approaches UX from visual communication and the organization of content. Ideation and sitemaps lead into paper and digital prototypes for a multi-screen application. It is the second course in its UI/UX sequence and expects learners to build on earlier visual-interface skills.

What you will learn

  • Organize content through sitemaps and interface structure.
  • Move from app ideation into paper prototypes.
  • Develop a digital multi-screen prototype.

Who this suits

Learners with some visual-design, web-development or related experience; preview the preceding visual-interface course for preparation.

Before you enroll

Allow time to conduct research and revise the design, beyond watching the lessons. Obtain consent for interviews and usability sessions, protect participant information and distinguish observed evidence from your assumptions. A course certificate does not establish professional experience.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Create a sitemap for a fictional app and test whether each screen has a clear role before adding detailed visual styling.
