Course overview

Michigan State’s second game-development course uses a 2D platformer to examine how a game’s world, story and interactions work together. The syllabus develops gameplay and user-experience thinking alongside continued Unity practice. It is a sequential project course, with the earlier shooter course explicitly recommended as preparation.

What you will learn

  • Relate a game world to player actions.
  • Assess a platformer’s gameplay and user experience.
  • Develop and test a second Unity project.

Who this suits

This intermediate course is intended for learners who have completed the first course or have equivalent Unity experience. It does not restart from basic editor navigation.

Before you enroll

A technically functioning jump is different from a readable and enjoyable interaction. Leave time to test timing, feedback and level layout rather than only completing the code.

Coursera lists paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for included assessments, certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. University authorship does not by itself confer admission, academic credit or a professional license.

Put it into practice

Create a short platforming section with a clear learning progression. Watch a new player attempt it and revise the visual feedback at the point where they become confused.
