Course overview

Luca Berton introduces API validation through taught examples and exercises around responses, errors and reliability. Microservice testing and security considerations broaden the checks beyond a single status code. It suits learners who already understand HTTP and authentication and want to explain why an API response can be syntactically valid while still violating a useful expectation about its data or behavior.

What you will learn

  • Explore API data and response validation.
  • Review error-handling and security checks.
  • Connect validation with microservice reliability.

Who this suits

Intermediate learners familiar with HTTP, authentication and API usage concepts. The course is a compact taught sequence, so plan additional practice if you need to design a larger test suite independently.

Before you enroll

Practice against a local or explicitly permitted API with fictional records. Keep tokens and credentials out of shared collections, repositories, screenshots and exported request logs. Match examples with the current Postman interface and plan limits; cloud collaboration or other tools may cost extra. A successful response is only one test outcome: consider invalid input, permissions and repeatable execution before relying on a collection.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Define a contract for a fictional service response. Test a wrong data type, a missing field and a denied request, then explain which check concerns structure and which concerns permitted application behavior.
