Course overview

Microeconomics Principles introduces a way of analyzing choices rather than treating economics as a catalog of financial facts. Incentives, constraints, and tradeoffs connect to decisions made by individuals and organizations. The course's everyday examples are useful for seeing where an economic model clarifies a situation and where its assumptions need questioning.

What you will learn

  • Reason about opportunity costs and incentives
  • Understand introductory market relationships
  • Apply economic models to everyday decisions
  • Explain assumptions behind a simplified analysis

Who this suits

Useful for a beginning economics student, business learner, or curious reader. Basic graph reading and algebra help, but previous economics study is not the main prerequisite. Draw the relationship you are describing and state which factor is changing instead of only memorizing a definition.

Before you enroll

Models deliberately leave some features of a situation out. Before applying a conclusion, ask whether its assumptions fit the case. This course is an academic introduction; it does not provide individualized financial advice or a complete account of macroeconomic policy.

Put it into practice

Analyze a fictional price change and explain how your prediction would differ if customers had no practical substitute for the product.
