CS50 SQL goes beyond asking a database for rows. It introduces the decisions behind how data is modeled and how queries behave as a database grows. Lectures are paired with problem sets, so you have to apply the concepts to a new question rather than rely on recognizing the instructor's finished query.
A good option for a beginner who wants both SQL practice and a clearer database model. It is also useful for a programmer whose database work has been limited to copying queries. Expect the problem sets to require more time than the lecture playback alone.
Writing a query that runs is only the first check. Verify what each row represents and whether joins change the intended count. The course is a foundation; database operations and the behavior of a particular production database still require vendor-specific documentation.
The course materials are free. A CS50 certificate depends on satisfying the published assessment requirements; an optional edX verified certificate is a separate paid route.
Design a small lending database, then explain which constraints prevent duplicate loans and which business rules still need application code.
