Course overview

Minnesota combines testing principles with programming practice. Foundations and lifecycle decisions lead into unit-test design over an estimated thirty hours. This is a deeper technical introduction for someone who can already write object-oriented code.

What you will learn

  • Relate test objectives to the kind of defect being investigated.
  • Plan testing within the software development lifecycle.
  • Write unit tests and communicate a reproducible defect.

Who this suits

Learners with object-oriented programming experience, preferably Java, and the ability to install an IDE.

Before you enroll

Those programming and setup requirements are explicit. Code coverage is one diagnostic rather than proof of correct behavior, so evaluate what each test actually checks.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Tool subscriptions, model API usage and cloud services may cost extra.

Put it into practice

Test a small collection class with both state and behavior assertions. Introduce a deliberate defect and check whether the suite detects the changed behavior.
