Basics of Cisco Networking

LearnQuest develops Cisco networking through foundational concepts, switching and routing, then management and security. The sequence connects devices that move traffic with the work of operating a network. It is a vendor-focused comparison for learners who want Cisco examples while retaining a view of the overall network rather than one command alone.

What you will learn

• Explain Cisco networking foundations.
• Compare switching and routing roles.
• Relate network management to security considerations.

Who this suits

Beginner-level course; the provider lists IT or computer-science preparation among its prerequisites.

Before you enroll

Use an isolated lab or a network you are permitted to administer. Check the required software, cloud resources and exercise access before enrolling, and document changes so the practice environment can be restored.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Draw a small permitted lab with a switch and router. Explain which device handles local communication and which enables communication with a different network.
