Dr Seán Carroll
Explore Seán Carroll’s statics course for force moments, equilibrium, support reactions and truss analysis, with model limitations and prerequisites.
Opens on the provider’s site. Check current access and certificate terms there.
Seán Carroll develops structural analysis from forces and moments into equilibrium and support reactions. Joint resolution and the method of sections provide ways to analyze pin-jointed trusses. The course makes a useful comparison for engineering beginners because it connects a calculation with the simplified model that makes the calculation possible.
No previous static analysis is required. High-school algebra and geometry are helpful, along with paper, a calculator and time for independent problems.
The February 2024 page distinguishes simplified models from real structural behavior. These are learning calculations, not validated designs for construction; assumptions about supports, joints and loads need explicit attention.
Udemy offers paid purchase or subscription access depending on the course and region. Paid teaching courses provide completion certificates under Udemy’s policy. Check current enrollment terms and any separate software, account or materials costs.
Draw a free-body diagram for a fictional truss and solve its reactions before member forces. Check the result using another method and explain which real-world behaviors the idealized model leaves out.
This overview is based on the provider's published information, checked on . It is an editorial assessment, not a claim that we completed the resource. Time filters are approximate study ranges; projects and exercises can take longer.
When no formal provider level is given, the level filter is an editorial estimate based on the published audience and requirements. Time filters use the listed video runtime; independent exercises can take longer.
