Course overview

The official Learn course builds a dashboard rather than demonstrating each framework feature in isolation. You create routes, connect data, add search and pagination, and make changes through forms. That sequence helps explain why rendering and cache behavior matter: you can see their effect in an application with real read and write paths.

What you will learn

  • Build nested routes and shared layouts
  • Fetch database data in Server Components
  • Add streaming, search, pagination, and mutations
  • Introduce validation, authentication, and metadata

Who this suits

A useful first Next.js project for someone who understands basic React. Written chapters make it easy to slow down and inspect each change. If components, props, or state are still unclear, take the linked React Foundations course before starting the dashboard.

Before you enroll

It is a guided tutorial with deliberate constraints. Finishing the dashboard does not settle deployment operations, permissions design, or every caching case you will encounter. Follow the course's current version guidance and use the matching API reference when adapting the example.

The lessons are free and do not award a course certificate. Database and deployment steps can require accounts; review service limits separately.

Put it into practice

Introduce an empty dataset and a failed form submission, then check that both states remain understandable and usable.
