Hugging Face smol-course: LLM Fine-Tuning

The smol-course focuses on adapting language models through practical fine-tuning work. It is more specialized than a broad introduction to generative AI.

Before you enroll

GPU access is recommended, and compute can have separate costs or limits. Check model licenses and hardware requirements before training. Keep a held-out evaluation set and look for regressions as well as improvements; adaptation is not automatically preferable to prompting or retrieval.

The course and its certification process are free under the provider’s current instructions. Completion certification requires the units and final project; optional hosted compute may cost extra.

Put it into practice

Create a small documented dataset, reserve evaluation examples, and compare an adapted model with its original on the same tasks. Record configuration and compute use.
