NASM develops exercise-programming concepts across four taught training areas and a final assignment. The curriculum connects selection and modification of exercises with clear demonstrations and coaching cues. It gives aspiring fitness professionals a framework for explaining why a program differs between clients rather than applying one routine to everyone.
The course is labelled Beginner. Familiarity with fitness assessment and basic anatomy helps learners connect the programming material with the reasons for adapting an exercise.
The schedule suggests three weeks at ten study hours per week. Course completion is separate from a professional trainer credential. Use fictional cases for assignments; online lessons do not assess every learner’s movement technique or medical needs. Practical work should remain within appropriate supervision and the learner’s current abilities.
Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.
Draft a program outline for a fictional client and explain its assumptions. Identify a situation that would require referral or further assessment before selecting an exercise.
