Course overview

Packt develops a pixel platformer from character movement and animation through levels, combat and progression. TileMaps, cameras, enemies and save behavior connect the project’s systems. It suits learners who already know Godot and GDScript and want to examine how a level becomes playable, including the interaction between movement, boundaries, feedback and the state that persists after a restart.

What you will learn

  • Build movement, animation and platformer controls.
  • Create levels with TileMaps and camera behavior.
  • Connect combat, menus and save/load systems.

Who this suits

Intermediate learners with previous Godot and GDScript experience plus basic programming skills. This is a project course rather than a first introduction to the editor or programming.

Before you enroll

Use a separate practice project and keep a working copy before changing scripts or scenes. Godot releases can change APIs and editor behavior, so match the demonstrated version with your installation. Check licenses for any downloaded art, audio or other assets before distributing a game. Finishing a guided project is a starting point for further design, testing and independent development rather than a promise of commercial success.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Create a short fictional platformer level with a checkpoint. Test a failed jump, an enemy encounter and a restart, then explain which state should reset and which progress should remain saved.
