Course overview

This two-module course introduces SketchUp through the task of converting a house plan into a model. Drawing and navigation support the construction of walls and openings, followed by components and textures. It provides a specific beginner project with instruction and assessment rather than a generic asset download.

What you will learn

  • Interpret a plan and model its main geometry
  • Build walls and openings with consistent dimensions
  • Use components and textures to clarify a model

Who this suits

The provider requires no previous SketchUp experience. Basic computer skills and interest in architectural representation are sufficient, although reading a simple floor plan will make the workflow easier to follow.

Before you enroll

The four-hour estimate covers study activities as well as video. Software access is separate. Preserve the original plan and check its units before modeling; textures can conceal scale or alignment mistakes. The exercise develops representation skills and does not establish that the example meets local construction requirements.

Coursera offers paid enrollment or subscription access. Check the enrollment screen for assessment and certificate terms, trials and any financial-aid options. Provider access terms can change; review them before paying.

Put it into practice

Draw a small original plan and model its walls and openings. Compare dimensions in both representations, reuse one component, and explain how you checked that the model follows the plan.
